Weblogs
A Weblog is a log of the web entered in diary fashion by an author known as a “blogger” who links to other pages that are of interest to them using entries that get posted in reverse chronological order. It takes the form of a website or web page and is added to and maintained by the blogger. Weblogs serve two purposes. They can either provide commentary or discussion about news or some other subject. They can also function as a personal diary online.
Normally, the Weblog will combine images, links, and text to other blogs or webpages, as well as media that is related to the topic. A key feature is that visitors to the Weblog have the ability to leave their own comments in a discussion or interactive type format. For the most part, blogs are textual in nature. However, some focus on art and are referred to as artlogs. The following functions illustrate the other means in which items can be blogged (i.e. left) at the site:
Audio – podcasting
Music – MP3 blogs
Photographs – photoblogs
Sketchblogs – self-explanatory
Videos – vlogs
Another concept of weblogs is micro-blogging in which the communications or “posts” are very short in length. Technorati, the blog search engine was tracking more than 112 million blogs as of December of 2007.
